Tallow has been used for centuries as an all-natural moisturizer and skin conditioner. It's also rich in vitamins A and D and contains essential fatty acids that help protect your skin from environmental damage and irritation.

But did you know that tallow is also great for hair? The same properties that make it so good for your skin are also great for your hair: vitamins A and D help strengthen hair follicles and prevent breakage; essential fatty acids keep your scalp healthy; and its natural moisturizing properties keep your scalp hydrated so it doesn't dry out or become too oily.

The pH of our Shampoo Bar hovers around 4.4-5, providing a much more gentle cleanse than many of the other shampoo bars available on the market. This is because most of the "other guys" are formulated more like a soap bar than a shampoo bar.

Since the pH of your skin is around 9-10 (ie, much more alkaline) and the pH of your scalp is around 4-5 (a bit more acidic), this means that washing your hair with a shampoo bar that's formulated like a soap will massively disrupt the pH of your scalp, and will likely cause your hair to become dry and brittle.

How to Care for your New Shampoo Bar: After you shower, place the shampoo bar on a clean, dry surface for 5 to 10 minutes so it can dry completely. If you store the bar when it is still wet or damp, it will disintegrate over time. Avoid leaving your conditioner bar in the shower where it may come into contact with water.

The FATCO Shampoo Bar is made with grass-fed beef tallow, saponified organic coconut oil, and organic castor oil. No sulfates, no silicones, no synthetic fragrance, no preservatives. The tallow base provides the scalp-nourishing fatty acids that conventional shampoos strip out.
Most shampoo bars use a surfactant base (sodium lauryl sulfate or a gentler alternative) without any conditioning agent. A tallow shampoo bar uses grass-fed beef tallow — which has a fatty acid profile similar to your scalp's natural oils — to clean without disrupting the scalp's baseline moisture. Less stripping means fewer rebound oil problems.
There is a transition period of 2 to 4 weeks as your scalp adjusts after stopping conventional sulfate shampoos. Scalps conditioned to over-stripping and synthetic re-coating take time to rebalance. After the transition, most people find their hair requires washing less frequently and feels better overall. An apple cider vinegar rinse can help speed the transition.
Yes. Sulfate-free cleaning means less color fade. The tallow base adds moisture back without silicone coating that makes hair feel artificially smooth but builds up over time. A gentler wash cycle means your color lasts longer between salon visits.
Wet your hair fully, then rub the bar directly on your scalp in circular motions to work up a lather. Massage the lather through your hair, then rinse thoroughly. Follow with the FATCO Conditioner Bar if needed. Let the bar dry between uses — a soap dish with drainage will extend its life significantly.
One bar typically replaces 2 to 3 bottles of conventional shampoo. With normal use (washing 3 to 4 times per week), expect 6 to 8 weeks from one bar. Keeping it dry between washes is the key to getting the full life out of it.
