New Year, New Skincare Routine!

For many of us, January feels like the perfect month to perform a reset! A reset on our diet, a reset on our activity levels (HELLO new gym memberships!)...and we believe that this is also a perfect time to give your skin a reset, too!

Many people don't realize that what you put ONTO your skin is just as important as what you put INTO your body! This is why detoxing your skin is essential for overall health & wellness!

Here are our top 5 tips for performing a New Year Skincare Reset!

 

Start Small

Overhauling your entire skincare regimen can feel super overwhelming! So we believe it's best to start small. Every month, choose 2 products that you're going to replace. Just 2! Even small changes like this will help you to lighten your toxic load! Remember, it's about progress, not perfection!

Begin with the Biggest Culprits

Deodorant- Many conventional antiperspirants and deodorants contain super nasty chemicals that are incredibly damaging to your overall health! This is why the very first product that I decided to develop in the very early days of FATCO was a natural deodorant! I was aware how much harm the "regular stuff" was doing to my body, but I was completely unable to find a natural solution that worked! 

Deodorant is a product that's applied every single day to the very delicate underarm tissue. Immediately beneath the skin lies an intricate chain of lymph nodes. These nodes are connected to not only the tissues in your breasts, but also the rest of the body. So, considering the long list of chemicals that can typically be found in conventional deodorants, we think it's especially important to steer clear of these products and find a safe alternative, like our Stank Stop Natural Deodorant!

Body Moisturizer- You might be surprised to see this one listed as #2 on our list...let me explain why. While something like a facial cleanser is used on just your face, think about where you're applying body lotion...You ENTIRE Body! That's a lot of surface area! That's why I believe that the body lotion you're using should be scrutinized. 

Many conventional body lotions are a blend of water emulsified with oil. Therefore, they have to contain some pretty intense preservatives and stabilizers so that they're safe enough to sit on a store shelf for (sometimes up to) 3 years!  Instead, try something like our Body Butta! Our body moisturizers are a blend of oils and fats (no water) so they're completely stable, and don't need a complicated (and toxic) preservative!

Makeup

We all like to wear a little foundation, blush and mascara every now and then. But, is it worth the risk?

Remember...water is your best friend during this time!  Ensure that you're drinking plenty of high quality H2O during a skin detox! Also make sure you're eating lots of fruits, vegetables, pastured meat and sprouted grains. Finally, ensure that you're getting enough sleep and that you're exercising! All of these healthy lifestyle habits will help your detox pathways to open and allow your body to purge "the bad stuff".

Detox with a Mask!

If this is your first ever skincare detox, then you might need to call in the big guns! A clay-based mask can work wonders for drawing out deep impurities that lie beneath the surface of your skin.
